Minecraft World Map and its community
- skeight, who started Minecraft World Map in 2011 and ran the website and the game server.

- Blobbers, a former member of the server staff, who kept a copy of Creative Archive 1.8. It was thought lost until that copy turned up in October 2026.

Archives that saved it
- Leonard Richardson's Minecraft Archive Project, which saved every world on the website in May 2014 (project page).
- The Internet Archive, which keeps those worlds and gives them out for free (the Minecraft Archive Project collections).
- The Wayback Machine, whose saved copies of the website's pages gave us the forum, the history and the Creative Archive previews (web.archive.org).
- Common Crawl, whose web crawls saved more of the forum (commoncrawl.org).
The look of this site
This site was first rebuilt to look exactly like Minecraft World Map did at its last saved copy, in January 2021, from the Wayback Machine's copies of the original pages. Since October 2026 it has a look of its own, made for the archive, but it still uses these original files of Minecraft World Map, whose design belongs to it:
- the original site stylesheet (original, Wayback Machine copy);
- Bootstrap 3.1.1 and its Glyphicons Halflings icon font, which the original site used (getbootstrap.com, MIT licence);
- the forum's MyBB theme stylesheets and its theme images (forum icons and table headers); the list of files and the copies they came from is kept with the site's source;
- the sky, grass and stone background strip (original, Wayback Machine copy);
- the Minecraft World Map icon next to the site name (original, Wayback Machine copy);
- the default Steve avatar shown next to user names (original, Wayback Machine copy).
The forum software was MyBB.
World maps
The zoomable world maps are drawn from the world files by this archive's own map renderer, using the block pictures and colours from Mojang's Minecraft game files, which are not part of this archive. It draws its tiles in the projection and tile layout of Minecraft Overviewer (GPL-3.0 licence), the renderer the original site used. The maps are shown with Leaflet 1.9.4 (BSD 2-Clause licence; its licence is kept with the copy at /assets/vendor/leaflet-1.9.4/LICENSE).
